Ugli Fruit

Ugly Ugli fruit is not a favorite name among people

Ugli fruit is indeed a fruit! Yes, it is not an offensive name given to an unpopular fruit. In fact, Cabel Hall Citrus Ltd has trademarked Ugli fruit for its own in the year 1934. This company sells the Jamaican tangelo fruit which is nothing but its own creation.

A hybrid of pomelo or grapefruit, tangerine and orange ugli fruit is mainly found in Jamaica, this fruit was discovered when it grew in the wilderness, similar to the way grapefruit came into existence.

When it comes to appearance, the ugli fruit doesn’t look that appealing as it appears as wrinkled, rough, green – yellowish that is wrapped very loosely over the pulpy orange citrus which is inside it. Perhaps that’s where it got its name to be ugli fruit.
